One of the biggest Telecommunications in Ghana, MTN Ghana, has announced that from April 2nd, 2021 all Mobile Money customers will need to show their valid ID cards before any Mobile Money withdrawal transaction can be done.
MTN Ghana has said that Mobile Money Merchants must select the ID type and enter the ID card number shown by the customer before the transaction can be completed.
As a result of this directive, with a valid ID card, Mobile Money transactions can be handled. Customers are expected to present any ID card -Ghana Card, Driving License, Passport, VoterVoter'sand NHIS.
The General Manager of Mobile Money Limited, Eli Hini, commenting on this, said, “The "enforcement of this directive, apart from being a regulatory requirement, will also complement efforts being taken by MTN MoMo to curb Mobile Money fraud in the country.
Mobile Money Limited remains committed to the fight against Mobile Money fraud and will continue implementing measures to make the service safer.”
R"questing an ID card for Mobile Money transactions is not a new requirement. It has been part of the service offering and is strictly enforced at MTN branch Offices or Service Centers nationwide.
To make Mobile Money usage safer, MTN Customers are encouraged to continue to observe the three Golden Rules for mobile money usage.
- Customers should at no point disclose their Mobile Money pin codes
- They should never allow other people to perform transactions on their behalf,
- They must refrain from entertaining any calls that seek to discuss their wallets or get them to respond to promotions they have not participated in.
Also, customers who deposit their wallets must always check to ensure the funds have been received before they leave the vendor vendors.
