Ghanaian film actress Martha Ankomah sued Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin, in a reaction to LilWin's recent social media feud on the actress for showing interest in an offer to work with Kumawood and other issues.
A few days ago, Nkansah criticized Martha's earlier comment during an interview on Accra FM, which strove to downplay the storylines of current Kumawood films compared to the Agya Koo era.
In a viral video, the Kumawood actor was captured using rude and shocking words towards the actress.
"Those wealthier than you, Martha, are very self-respecting and humble. Are you thinking of yourself as a star? Who is familiar with you? What's in your possession? Why did GTP choose Martha Ankomah to represent their brand instead of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu, and others? Roselyn Ngissah, Van Vicker, and associates don't act this way.
They collaborate with us as well. They film Kumawood productions. The fact that you talked about such things still surprises me. Were you inebriated?
"Patience Ozorkwor came to Kumasi to shoot a movie," he said. Mr. Ibu, Pawpaw, Aki, and the others came down to film a scene here. However, for those of you who consider yourselves cultured actors, how frequently do these Nigerians travel to Ghana for filming?
On February 15, 2024, the ambassador for GTP filed a lawsuit against LilWin through her lawyers.
A copy of the court summons reads:
"Martha, the Plaintiff, is pleading with the Accra High Court to award damages to her for the defamatory remarks made by LilWin, the Defendant, in the amount of five million Ghana cedis. In addition, she is requesting reimbursement for the harm done to her reputation.
"A declaration that the words, 'Who knows you? Who would have signed you without GTP and senior government officials who signed you on at GTP? What kind of celebrity are you? Even your daughter doesn't know you.
I'm interested in why GTP overlooked McBrown, Mercy Asiedu, and co and made Martha Ankomah their brand representative. If you had been a male actor, you would have been sorrowed. When you become an actress and a star, men take care of you; men rent housing for you; men buy you houses; men buy cars for you. You would have suffered as a man, but for the fact that you are female.
"'It is men who look after you. You have become a star. For this reason, men tend to your needs. You don't use your money on anything published by or concerning the Plaintiff and contained in paragraphs 8 and 9 of the Statement of Claim that are defamatory of the Plaintiff. Therefore, Plaintiff is seeking Damages in the sum of 5 million Ghana cedis for the defamatory statements made by Defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of Plaintiff," parts of the summons read.
LilWin has also been issued an eight-day request to appear before an Accra High Court or face the consequences.
"You are at this moment commanded that within eight days after service of this writ on you, including the day of service, you do cause an appearance to be entered for you. And take notice that in default of your so doing, judgment may be given in your absence without further notice to you," parts of the summons contained.
