President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has dismissed claims that he plans to scrap the Free SHS policy when he is voted to power.
According to him, the policy has come to stay, and it is not going anywhere. Nobody is going to scrap Free SHS.
Speaking on Voice of Africa, President Mahama tagged the allegations as political gimmickry carried out by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He added that his administration is going to maintain the policy and secure dedicated funding for it so that it is better resourced than it is currently.
In addition to ensuring Free SHS funding, Mahama highlighted some waste in the system, which his administration is going to help make more efficient so that the parents, teachers, and students get the best out of the Free SHS Programme.
"Free SHS has come to stay, and it is not going anywhere. Nobody is going to scrap Free SHS. What was said was political talk; it was just political gimmickry. We are going to maintain the policy. What we are going to do is secure dedicated funding for it so that it is better resourced than it is currently. There is a lot of waste in the system, and we are going to help make it more efficient so that the parents, teachers, and students get the best out of Free SHS."
